The Individual - Emily Young

In the matrix of sportswear designer, somewhere between the brand, retailer and marketing, the final user can be often be forgotten. The most important factor of design, the wearer is overlooked in favour of glossy images and shiny fabrics. We took a moment to speak to Emily Young, blogger and triathlete.

Who are you and what do you do?

I’m Emily – it can be pretty hard to sum up what I do as I wear a few hats! My main passion is creating social content for brands/athletes/influencers, you can usually find me with a camera in hand!

I’m also a blogger at Emily’s Journal where I document my triathlon journey, hopefully encouraging and inspiring more women to find a love for sport like I have.

I PT and coach Pilates a few evenings a week which I love doing and don’t really think of as a job, plus I’m currently training as a triathlon coach!

What are you currently working on?

I’m currently trying to grow my presence as a content creator – it’s pretty competitive and it can be difficult as a freelancer but I absolutely love it. I just want to spend every day being creative and around inspiring people!

What excites you?

BIG challenges and testing limits –I either want to be the one doing it or the one capturing it.

Can you tell me the future of sportswear?

It amazes me how far it’s already come since I got into sport – I think it’s only going to become more and more practical/efficient/performance enhancing, and then better looking and still achieving the functional gains.

What will you be doing in 5 years?

Hopefully what I’m doing now, just on a much bigger scale!
